1. Form the LLC
Choose the state (most non-residents pick Wyoming, Delaware or New Mexico) and file through a registered agent, who gives the in-state address.
2. Get an EIN without an SSN
Foreign owners file Form SS-4 with the IRS by fax or mail; the EIN is free. A foreign mailing address is accepted.
3. Set up the mail address
A virtual mailbox or the agent’s mail forwarding receives IRS and state letters. USPS Form 1583 is required for a mailbox.
4. Open the bank account
Give the bank your formation address as the legal address and your real home or office (abroad is fine at Mercury and Relay) as the physical one.
5. Stripe and Amazon
Stripe refuses P.O. boxes and private mailboxes and, for some products, registered-agent and virtual addresses. Amazon verifies by postcard and documents; use the address you can prove with a utility bill or lease.
Every year after that: the state report or tax, the agent renewal, and Form 5472 with a pro forma Form 1120 for a foreign-owned single-member LLC.
We compare; we are not a registered agent, mail service, bank or adviser. Links on this page go to official sites and are not partner links today. If we add partner links later, they will be marked as such; a partner fee never changes what we publish.
