Which address will your bank accept for a US LLC?

Online banks ask for two addresses: a legal one (from your formation documents) and a physical one (where you run the business). Mercury, Relay, Wise and Brex all refuse P.O. boxes and mailbox services for the physical address; Relay accepts a registered agent as the legal address, while Mercury’s own articles disagree.

Mercury

How you apply: Online, non-residents accepted

Legal / registered address: Formation-document address: HQ or registered agent; not a P.O. box, PMB or virtual office.

Physical / operating address: Where the business operates — office or home, US or international. Not a registered agent, P.O. box, PMB or virtual office.

Proof: Residential address may need a utility bill or bank statement from the last 90 days.

Where sources disagree: Two Mercury help articles disagree on whether a registered agent address may be the legal address. Ask support before applying.

Chase

How you apply: Usually in person at a US branch

Legal / registered address: Formation documents and EIN (or SSN/ITIN).

Physical / operating address: Chase’s checklist lists proof of address as possibly required; the address rule for foreign owners is not published.

Proof: Varies by state of organisation.

Where sources disagree: Third-party guides say a US residential address is generally needed; Chase does not publish this.

Bank of America

How you apply: In person

Legal / registered address: Formation documents and EIN.

Physical / operating address: Owners need a physical residential address; passport details for foreign persons.

Where sources disagree: Bank of America’s small-business document says one owner or controlling manager must be a US citizen or resident — a fully foreign-owned LLC does not qualify on that rule.
